FortiGate

execute dhcp lease-list

SafeDHCP leases

execute dhcp lease-list

Lists active leases — locate a device's IP, spot scope exhaustion, trace MACs to hosts.

Examples

  • execute dhcp lease-listShow all leases
  • execute dhcp lease-list port2Leases on one interface only
  • show system dhcp serverCheck scope ranges and lease time
  • execute dhcp lease-clear 192.168.1.50Release one lease

Syntax

execute dhcp lease-list

Key points

  • The output lists IP, MAC, expiry and hostname. Use it to trace a device from its MAC or to spot one MAC holding several addresses.
  • If the lease count approaches the size of the range (start-ip to end-ip), the scope is close to exhaustion. Shortening the lease time also helps.
  • Leases appear only when the FortiGate itself is the DHCP server. With DHCP relay, check the DHCP server instead.

When it does not work

  • With VDOMs enabled, enter the right VDOM first.
