readlink / realpath

SafeResolve links and paths

readlink -f <path>

Resolves symlinks and absolute paths; -f follows chains to the end. The classic for a script's own path.

Examples

  • readlink -f /usr/bin/javaFind the real java binary

Syntax

readlink [-f] <path> / realpath <path>
